Bitches, I’m so good with these titles that I should be a professional movie-title-copywriter. You know what I mean.As promised, here is the second part of my Wadi Rum trip in the Land of Jordania (its not really called that).
Since we missed the sunset (WHICH IS APPARENTLY MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THE SUN RISE), we decided to wake up real early to catch the sunrise. How early you ask
This fucking early. Yes, that is the moon you are seeing. I asked my tent-mate, Tala, if she was sure we couldn’t sleep for another hour or so… I mean, I’m not kidding you when I say that the moon was still shining ever so brightly in the night sky. She said: “Debra, trust me, the sunrise is in 40 minutes.”

This my friend, is the look of trust. All sleepy and bewildered from the morning wake… We had to walk about 20 minutes out, WITHOUT a lantern (using the light of the moon as our guide [fuck yeah that sounds so cool to type]), climb some rocks, and then just wait around in the dark hoping there’s no weird animal/giant insect that would creep up on us.

Then all of the sudden: THE SUN FINALLY STARTS TO APPEAR. HALLELUJAH.

A moment of awe, as we knew we were gonna witness some MAGIC.

BOOM! You can only see the how truly red the sands are when its breaking dawn (ANOTHER BOOM FOR A POP CULTURE REFERENCE!). This is truly some impressive physics going on. Its seriously gorgeous though. I kinda wished it stayed this red for just a bit longer.

Time for some reflection on how futile we really are to the power of nature.
Kidding, I was more like, EWW INSECT.

I was already excited at this point and started taking photos of everything in sight. Old rock formations are awesome. I need to go to the Grand Canyon next.

With every minute of the sun rise, the colors of the sands and its surroundings keeps changing. I mean WOW RIGHT?

Look at these bitches being excited about the beauty of nature.
I don’t know where Tala is going. TALA COME BAACK… Oh never mind… Tala is a jaded Jordanian, these wonderful sights of nature is too passe for her…

Super serious Tatiana trying to capture the moment. I was just trying to capture her in this awkward pooping position. (i love you gurl, don’t hate me please).

Not poop. AHAHAHAHA. As I grow older, poop jokes become funnier to me.
Time to learn peeps: You can pick up these rocks from the ground and use it as a dye. Its a bit terracotta-ish in color.

Obligatory group photo in the making.

Marie took off her shoe to clear some of the sand. And the sand dyed her foot… Don’t worry, its not a cut/blister.

The walk back to the camping grounds. I’m going to sound cheesy for a bit, but at least for me, there’s always something truly romantic about the desert. Even though I feel like I’m in Mars.

How the camping grounds look during the daytime.

It was like a fucking oven inside the tent. We fell asleep again right after the whole sunrise escapade, and only to be woken up by the blistering sun baking us alive inside our tents. Seriously, desert weather.

Fancy Schamncy Tent. WITH ACTUAL BEDS! And a tiny drawer too!
For some reason, I couldn’t sleep at all during my stay. There was something eerie about the complete utter silence of the night. On top of that, I keep hearing something (an animal I hope) scratching the side of our tent. FUH-REEKY. Marie also couldn’t sleep and heard the scratching, proving that I’m not insane and just started to hear things.
However, even with the lack of sleep, we were very productive that day. We even went to Petra to do some mega hiking/sightseeing. Yeah, you can guess what the next post is going to be about :p

You are so funny! I just came from Belize and we also slept in the tents at the Glover’s Atoll, I loved it, but at one point I thought I saw a bug in our tent and at that moment I was hoping it was an animal (ten jaguars or something) and not a bug! Great article, great pictures!!!!
The desert looks so magnificent, so many centuries went by and nothing have changed… I am dreaming now to go there and to sleep under the stars!!! How did you take the picture of the starry sky by the way? I tried to do it in Belize but only Moon was visible on the picture…
i had to tweak my camera around for a bit. if you have a tripod. that would be best, and since we didn’t have any. we just used chairs and lied our cameras on top of it. i had to open my aperture to the max, and my shutter exposure was for 30 seconds.
i hope i was clear
